I’m a social media researcher and consultant.

I’ve helped large and small companies increase conversions and implement successful Internet and Digital Marketing campaigns since 1998. Additionally, I track how companies use social media networks to manage their reputation, and use this information to help companies connect with their customers. I started researching corporate social media usage shortly before my internship with Joel Postman in writing the SocialCorp: Social Media Goes Corporate book.

If you know of a company making noteworthy use of social media in a good or bad way, let me know about them and I’ll feature them on the blog, or lead their social media initiatives as a contract Digital Media Marketing Consultant.

Merchants Looking For New Ways to Maximize Revenue Potential

80 percent of mid-sized merchants see e-commerce growth as very important or critical to their overall business in the next 1–3 years. While driving revenue should be the objective of every company, 40 percent of the merchants surveyed said they are not satisfied with their site’s current shopping experience, as it pertains to maximizing revenue

Energy Solutions Takes on the Blogosphere

Last week, Energy Solutions invited a group of bloggers on a tour of it’s Clive facility in Tooele, Utah. If you know anything about the company, you also know that they get a bad rap for the work they do, so they’re working to manage that bad rap by reaching out to the community and clearing up misconceptions

Problems With Social Metrics

Image via Wikipedia A while ago, I wrote a blog post on 5 ways to measure success with social media marketing. Today I ran across a great real-world example of the difficulties marketers have when setting up and measuring meaningful metrics in social marketing from Aliza Sherman at Web Worker Daily. I agree wholeheartedly with Aliza Sherman’s point that we

A Brave New World for Retail Transactions

FinancialPost.com just posted an interview with eBay’s Scott Thompson, who believes that in the very near future, all financial transactions will be “smart transactions”. This has far-reaching implications for social marketers as we develop integrated new media marketing strategies and campaigns. Considering the ubiquity of PayPal, marketers would be wise to partner with developers who

Leveraging Geolocation Marketing Services: The Pitfalls

I really enjoyed the sage perspective in this article from Dave Curry (AdAge) about geolocation, and the possible personal and industry pitfalls it could bring on. We’ve definitely turned a corner, and marketing will never be the same now that the technology has finally caught up to advertiser’s need for mobile marketing. If you’re thinking about
